Boudoir Photography – Frequently Asked Questions

The thought of doing a boudoir session can be scary. When talking to women about their session, I get asked all kinds of questions. So, I wanted to compile a list of my 12 most frequently asked questions to give you some insight on preparing for a boudoir session with me!

Do you share my images?

My number 1 priority is making sure my clients are comfortable, especially with boudoir! It can be a life changing experience, but that also makes it nerve wracking! Sometimes, you are learning how to love your body and you aren’t quite ready to share the images with the world, or sometimes these photos are specifically for your spouse and aren’t for anyone else’s eyes. These are all great reasons for not sharing your photos, and it all depends on your personal preference. If there are photos that I would like to share, I will ask for your permission first, and only share what you are comfortable with! Nothing is ever shared without your consent.

Do I have to wear lingerie?

You definitely don’t have to specifically wear lingerie; it depends on your personality! There are a BUNCH of outfit ideas other than lacy little things. Head over to this blog about choosing outfits to see some more ideas!

Do you have payment plans?

I offer a few payment options! There is a booking retainer to book your shoot which is due at the time of booking or can be split into 2 payments 15 days apart. Then products and images are separate. We’ll go over all pricing and you’ll receive the complete pricing guide to review. Your session can be booked several months in advance to take advantage of my pre-payment plan option which allows you to break up payments and have everything paid before your shoot! Let me know if this is something that you want to setup! You also get BONUSES if you go this route with a collection.

Or you can pay for everything at the reveal using cash, credit card or PayPal credit which gives you 6 months interest free financing. Check out the details for that here.

Is hair and makeup included?

Hair and makeup is included in all of my boudoir shoots! I think it’s really important for you to feel pampered, and having your hair and makeup done is a great way to do that! My amazing artists can help you complete your look, whether that’s “I just woke up like this” or Full on GLAM! You can bring any ideas you want for your makeup and we can try to use it for inspiration!

Do you Photoshop my images?

I do edit your images for light, exposure and color balance. I also smooth out the skin a bit and remove any temporary blemishes or bruises. I do NOT however edit anything “out” that is permanent and a part of you. I think it can be damaging to have a boudoir session done, and then edit out parts of yourself that make you who you are. Part of the process of accepting yourself and seeing your beauty also means not photoshopping out parts of yourself you don’t like. If there are parts of yourself that you are learning to love and aren’t thrilled about, that is okay! I am skilled in posing and lighting to make you look your absolute best and bring out your shine!

Where should I buy outfits?

There are a few places to buy outfits from and it depends on what you are getting and the style of your shoot. Here is a long list to choose from with different style and sizing! If you’re looking for something specific that you can’t find, let me know and I might know where to get it!

What type of print products do you have?

I offer a variety of albums and luxury glass or fabric boxes with prints in them. The Luxury album with Ice cover is my absolute favorite along with the Couture box. I absolutely love the feel of picking up the high end album and flipping through the pages, it’s so surreal to see yourself like that!

Do you offer digitals?

All of our packages include some sort of print product, and all but one collection include some or all of the digital files. But there is also an A La Carte list that you can choose from as well. On this list I have an option to add on digital images. These digital images come in a locked online gallery, for you to download and share!

I’m freaking out! How can I calm my nerves?

Nerves are all part of the experience! I always say that it would probably be weird if you WEREN’T nervous. The nervousness in the beginning of you shoot make your moment of “WOW” seeing your photos for the first time so much better.

How many outfits should I bring?

We will choose 3 outfits for your session unless you decide to add on outfits to your session. I always say bring more that necessary so we can go through and I can help narrow down. I also have a complete client closet so if you don’t have many we can pick through the closet.

Should I get to my appointment early?

You should always plan on getting to your appointment about 10 minutes early for hair and makeup so you can discuss what your desires are. From there you’ll come to my studio and we’ll jump right in.

Where is your studio located?

My main studio is located in Chico, CA! It’s got all the perfect touches for your luxury shoot. I also do boudoir weekends at select Airbnb’s in the Bay Area and rotate locations throughout the year. I will always choose a place that has lots of options for your photos to give that fun and luxurious vibe.
